Congratulations to Prof. Elizabeth Mills Fisher for being a recipient of the “2012 Excellence in Teaching and Advising Award”. Prof. Fisher was honored with the Dorothy G. Swanson Award, which is sponsored by John Swanson ’61 ME, in honor of his mother.

Congratulations to Prof. Elizabeth Mills Fisher for being a recipient of the “2012 Excellence in Teaching and Advising Award”.  Prof. Fisher was honored with the Dorothy G. Swanson Award, which is sponsored by John Swanson ’61 ME, in honor of his mother.

Prof. Fisher earned her BS in Physics at Yale University, where in her senior year, she served as President of the Yale chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.   Prof. Fisher earned both her MS PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkley.   She then came to Cornell as a postdoctoral research associate.  In 1991, she joined the faculty and was names to a five-year Clare Botthe Luce Professorship.  She received the Teetor Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers in 1995 and the Dennis G. Shepherd Memorial Teaching Prize in 1997. She is a Fellow of the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future and is a member of the Combustion Institute, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Prof. Fisher’s recent service to Cornell has been in connection with administering the undergraduate program for the Mechanical engineering major. Service to the research community is through reviewing papers and proposals, serving on graduate and postdoctoral selection panels, and serving on the nominating committee of the Combustion Institute. Prof. Fisher is also a core member of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves Climate Research Working Group.
