Fernanda Fontenele wins Women in Tech scholarship

Fernanda Fontenele, a Ph.D. candidate in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, has been awarded a 2021-22 Women in Technology Scholarship from Cadence Design Systems.

The scholarship selects candidates in the United States and Canada with an outstanding academic record who demonstrate leadership, passion for technology and commitment to advance women in technology fields.

Before joining Cornell, Fernanda played a leadership role in a Formula SAE project, where she established and led a team of students to build a racing car and compete in an international event. Since joining Cornell, she has been working in the Bouklas Lab to understand instabilities in soft composite materials. Fernanda is currently working toward the integration of that understanding into the finite element simulation of complex engineering and biological materials.

Their Women in Technology Scholarship is a critical part of their strategy to increase and support diversity. Scholarship recipients receive $5,000 in unrestricted funds.
