Xiangkun (Elvis) Cao, Ph.D. student in the Erickson Lab, has been named to All America Chinese Youth Federation’s (AACYF) Top 30 under 30 – Class of 2019 Elites, in the “Art, Culture, Science” category. The list was released by the AACYF, LAPOST, Chinese American Institute for Public Diplomacy in Los Angeles on March 18, 2019. Students studying robotics at Cornell University can learn about various facets of Robotics – including perception, learning, control, and human-robot interaction. The team utilizes several robots for research and learning purposes: aerial robots, humanoids, office and home assistant robots, and autonomous cars, among others. On Saturday, March 16, 2019 more than 50 kids and adults learned how to make wind turbine blades and tested them in the mini-wind tunnel at the Ithaca Sciencenter helped by Cornell students in the ‘MAE4120 Community Wind Energy Research’ course led by Professor Rebecca J Barthelmie. Two activities were really popular – designing blades to lift weights and designing blades to light a diode, although improving the designs proved just as popular. The American Chemical Society Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering and invited Tian to present her work during a symposium at the Fall 2019 ACS National Meeting in August. Dr. Zhiting Tian joined the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering on July 1, 2018, with the added title of Eugene A. Leinroth Sesquicentennial Faculty Fellow. Building solar, wind, natural gas and water infrastructure all along the U.S.–Mexico border would create economic opportunity rather than antagonism.
