After landing Mars rover, Swati Mohan ‘04 reflects on time at Cornell
Feb. 18, 2020 was a historic day for space exploration, marking the successful landing of the NASA Perseverance rover on Mars after a 292.5 million-mile journey. Swati Mohan ‘04 narrated the landing from mission control at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in southern California. Mohan, who graduated from Cornell’s Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was the mission’s guidance, navigation and controls operations lead, essentially the eyes and ears of the spacecraft on its seven-month, 300 million-mile cruise to Earth’s neighboring planet.
