Andrew Nassau, B.S., Mechanical Engineering '11; Master of Engineering Mechanical Engineering, 2012

Working with the Cornell Ranger

1. What research are you working on?

I worked in Locomotion and Robotics Lab with Professor Ruina. I have worked on several projects in the lab, however, the latest and most exciting is the Cornell Ranger. Over the summer, the Ranger set the unofficial world record for distance walked by a robot.

2. How did you get involved?

I got involved Sophomore year after taking Dynamics with Professor Ruina.

3. Do you have any advice for other students considering research in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering?

It’s a lot like finding an internship or a job. You need to emphasize your strengths and stay persistent.

4. Why did you choose to study Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell?

I choose to become an Engineer because I excelled in Physics and Math, and because an engineering degree can be used in many different fields. I became a Mechanical Engineer because it was the most diverse degree and is mostly based in Newtonian physics. I choose Cornell because it has a great engineering program, a really diverse student body, and squash courts.

5. What do you do for fun?

I am President of the Cornell Squash Club, as well as Alumni Chair for my fraternity, Theta Delta Chi. I love the outdoors. I am looking forward to getting my Wilderness First Aid certification this semester and climbing Mt. Washington again this winter. I am also a complete movie addict.

Where is Andrew Now?

After graduating in 2011 with my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, I completed a M.E. in the fall and started working at Corning Incorporated. At Corning, I supported top priority projects from R&D to mature manufacturing, in all of their divisions. My tasks ranged from designing equipment to programming industrial robots. These projects were located around the globe and I was able to also travel extensively throughout the US, as well as Germany, Taiwan, Japan and China. In 2015, I decided to go back to school, and I will be graduating with my MBA from Wharton this May. After school, I will be blending the quant background Cornell provided with these management and operational skills as a consultant at ZS Associates. I am grateful for the education I received at Cornell and look back fondly on my time there. -May 2017
