Hiu Fat (Eric) Tse selected as the

Walter Werring Prize for Excellence in Studies:

Walter W. Werring, for whom this prize is named, graduated from Cornell in 1922 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. This award was established to recognize talented and dedicated undergraduate Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering students who have enhanced the Cornell Community, excelling in a manner befitting the reputation of the Sibley School. 

Hiu Fat Tse is pursuing a dual degree in mechanical engineering and economics. His interest in energy saving technology motivated him to conduct research projects with Professor Zhang that analyzes net energy metering policy and supports Tompkins’ development of electric vehicle charging stations.  Selected as one of the ten finalist teams out of more than 700 teams in the world, he will also be representing Cornell to compete in the Go Green in the City 2015 competition hosted by Schneider Electric at Paris, France this summer.

On Campus, Hiu strives to enhance the Cornell Community through serving as a treasurer in ASME, a webmaster in Tau Beta Pi Honor Engineering Society, and in Cornell Formulae SAE team. In ASME, he contributed to the successes of 22 events to enrich engineers’ social and professional experience. As webmaster in TBP, Hiu did not only redesign the chapter’s website, but volunteered to organize the very first Engineer Your Future Forum that features professionals in various industries help more than 100 of Cornell students to find their paths. Furthermore, he established standard engine tuning and testing procedures coupled with a corresponding data logging system for the Cornell FSAE team that will have long lasting impacts on the team.

Upon completion of his dual degree program in December, 2015, Hiu hopes to contribute in a firm at either the U.S.A. or Hong Kong that provides and promotes energy saving and sustainable energy solutions.
