Three life scientists awarded 2021 Schwartz funds

Atieh Moridi, assistant prof in the Sibley School, was awarded the 2021 Schwartz Research Fund for her project that incorporates recent developments in 3D printing to develop metal biodegradable surgical implants, which if successful, can overcome limitations of current biodegradable implants that degrade too fast or too slowly inside the body. Tim Sands will be a guest editor of MDPI Applied Sciences’ special issue on “Underwater Vehicles.”

Timothy Sands, professor of practice in space systems in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering will be a guest editor of MDPI Applied Sciences’ special issue on “Underwater Vehicles.” Autonomous vehicle operation in challenging ocean environments remains an interesting area of research. Organic Robotics Corporation (ORC), co-founded by Robert Shepherd, associate professor in the Cornell Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, won the top award at the NFL’s 1 st and Future Pitch Competition in the Innovations to Advance Athlete Health and Safety category. The annual competition is in partnership with Amazon Web Services, Inc. and is designed to spur novel advancements in athlete safety and performance.
