FLUENT from Fluent Inc. is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package used for the simulation and analysis of fluid flow problems. It is used in M&AE 423 Intermediate Fluid Dynamics and M&AE 636/736 Elements/Theory of Computational Aerodynamics . We are collaborating with Fluent Inc. in developing curriculum material for teaching CFD at the undergraduate level using FLUENT. Click here for online FLUENT tutorials developed by the Swanson Program and used in the Intermediate Fluid Dynamics course.

Solid Edge from EDS is a powerful package for solid modeling and computer-aided design (CAD). It is used in M&AE 514: Design for Manufacture and Assembly taught by Prof. Herbert Voelcker. It is installed at the ACCEL facility in Carpenter Hall. It is available in all rooms at ACCEL except the Red Room. Cornell students can install Solid Edge Version 10 on their personal machines under generous licensing terms provided by EDS. The installation CD and a beginner's guide can be obtained by contacting Rajesh Bhaskaran, Director of Swanson Engineering Simulation Program, by e-mail at rb88@cornell.edu. For checking out the Solid Edge installation CD, students have to do the following:
Working Model 2D from MSC.Working Knowledge is used for two-dimensional kinematic and dynamic analysis of mechanical systems. Sample simulations including animations on the control of robotic manipulators implemented in Working Model 2D amd MATLAB are provided by Prof. Raffaello D'Andrea here . Some of the courses using Working Model 2D are M&AE 478 Feedback Control Systems , M&AE 417 Control of Robotic Manipulators, and M&AE 479/579 Modeling and Simulation of Mechanical and Aerospace Systems. It is also used by Cornell's champion RoboCup team.
