Biography

Professor Hencey received his doctorate in 2008 from the University of Illinois. Between receiving his doctorate and joining the Cornell faculty in 2009, he held postdoctoral positions at the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power, which was funded as an National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center, and a postdoctoral position at the United Technologies Research Center.

Research Interests

Professor Hencey is interested in applying dynamical, control, and information systems perspectives to complex engineered systems. In particular his work focuses on energy systems, such as building systems, wind energy, and microgrids. Over the past decades, the successful application of systems perspectives has enabled a revolution in the integrated systems design the aerospace, automotive, and chemical process industries. The objective of his work is to transform traditional systems perspectives into a form that is scalable and amenable for the complex engineered systems of the 21st century.
