INSTRUCTIONAL LABS

M&AE LABS The Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Instructional Labs are housed in several locations in Upson and Rhodes Halls. The Emerson Lab in Rhodes Hall supports the manufacturing and mechanics courses. The Upson labs, Bellis, Martin and Ohart, are home for the fluid mechanics, heat transfer and controls labs. The Taylor Design Studio is the department's mechanical design and synthesis laboratory; it is an ideal space for small groups and individuals specifically designed to foster team work and creativity.

More information, including lab access and use policies can be found by following the links to the individual labs.

INSTRUCTIONS Labs are an important component of our engineering program. They are incorporated into a number of courses to help in understanding such concepts as design, instrumentation, mechanics of materials, fluid dynamics, heat transfer and combustion. The Instructional Lab Staff is available to assist students in developing the technical skills needed to be successful in their studies at Cornell. A variety of short courses are offered for teaching machining skills, metrology and instrumentation.

SAFETY Safety is paramount in the labs. Students are required to complete a safety instruction programto use the labs. Additional training is provided on an ongoing basis by the staff to ensure that equipment is used correctly and safely.

EH&S Cornell's Environmental Health and Safety Department provides information and oversight to the University community. They offer numerous required and optional safety course and other services to ensure safety and compliance.

[COMING SOON] LAB INSTRUCTION ONLINE SAFETY COURSE
This online course will be self paced, and the results will be emailed directly to the Instructional Lab Staff.

PEOPLE The Instructional Lab Staff is lead by Matt Ulinski, and includes Len Evansic and George Petry in the Emerson Labs and Rick Schmidt in the Upson Labs
WEBPAGES OF INTEREST The Internet has become an enormous source of information. These are some of our more popular links. Let us know of any other ones that might be of interest to the M&AE community.
RESOURCES The Instructional Labs have a large array of equipment available for department use. Take a look at this developing page for equipment you might need. There is also a link to lab equipment slated for disposal and for reserving AV equipment.
PROJECTS Student projects are a vital component of the Cornell Engineering experience. Follow these links to the Championship FSAE and Robocup teams, the Hybrid Electric Vehicle, the Moon Buggy, and AIDE project.
