Academic Standards for Undergraduates in Mechanical Engineering:

A student in the Sibley School must be registered for a minimum of 12 credit hours throughout each term other than the last one. Good Standing: To be in good standing each term, an undergraduate mechanical engineering student must: a) pass at least 12 credit hours each term; b) have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 each term; c) have a cumulative GPA of 2.0; and d) make satisfactory progress toward the requirements for graduation. Any student not in Good Standing is subject to review by the Academic Standards Committee. Possible actions include Warning, Required Leave of Absence for a period specified by the Faculty; and Required Withdrawal.

To graduate in Mechanical Engineering:

A grade of C- or better is required for all M.E. Major required courses used to satisfy the Major Program EXCEPT: MAE 3780 (or Engrd 2100 or Physics 3360, if taken); Physics 2214, MAE 3272, MAE 4272, and MAE 4300, those courses require a passing grade of D- or better. In addition, a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 is required.

Mechanical Engineering Major Required Courses:

A grade of C- or better is required in ENGRD 2020, ENGRD/MAE 2210, MAE 2030, MAE 2120, 2250, 3230, 3240, 3250, and 3260, 3270 (first offered Su/Fall 2017), and MAE 3280 (first offered Spring 2018).

Mechanical Engineering Major Program Electives:

A passing grade is required for: (Senior) Design Elective, Math Elective, Technical Elective, Major Approved Elective I and II, and any additional Major Approved Electives, if needed to meet the 9-credit minimum of 3000+ MAE elective courses.

note: the S/U option is allowed only for Liberal Studies Distribution and Advisor Approved Elective courses with only one S/U used per semester to fulfill a degree requirement. Exception: If one course is only offered as S/U, the S/U option may be applied towards an additional course during the same term.  Consult the Engineering Handbook for additional S/U policies.

Applicability:

The Curriculum requirements described above apply to the class of 2004 and beyond.
