Instructions for Enrolling in MAE 4291

in this section

MAE 4291, Independent or Team Research with a Senior Design project, satisfies the M.E. Senior Design Elective. It is restricted to Mechanical Engineering seniors only.

The Senior Design Elective may be fulfilled by taking a designated 4-credit design course, for example, MAE 4021, 4131, 4141, 4231, 4641, 4701, 4861. Students enrolled in these senior design courses should discuss requirements for their design report with their project advisor/instructor.

This elective may also be satisfied by registering for MAE 4291, for at least 3 credits, and participating in individual research with a faculty member or joining a project team. A design report, submitted to the project advisor, is required.

A completed project approval form is required for each semester. This form is an agreement between you and your MAE 4291 research project advisor concerning your role on the project and the number of credits for which you will be elligible. MAE 4291 projects must be taken for at least 3 credits. Submit the completed Project Approval Form (with project advisor’s signature) to 108 Upson. Upon submission of the signed form, you will receive MAE approval to add this course on Student Center. Project approval forms can be found on our Forms page.
*Note: Project approval forms are not required for 4-credit senior design courses (i.e. MAE 4021, 4131, etc.)

The Design Report Content Summary Form lists several questions to which you must respond in written form. Your responses do not need to be more than a few sentences long, but must effectively address the question. Attach your responses to the content summary form and submit them with your report to your design instructor for review and signature. After the instructor has signed the summary form, submit it with your responses, to Emily Tompkins, in 108 Upson Hall.
