Office Hours

I hold office hours M 3:30-5:00 and T 3:30-5:00. If possible, please see me during that time.  If you cannot make that time, please email me.

Registration permissions

Students are required to discuss their schedule with me before they will be allowed to preenroll. I recommend beginning this process several weeks before preenrollment.

When to See Kirby and When to See Nanette/Emily

Nanette and Emily are useful for most administrative issues, simply because they know much more than I do on these topics.  I am useful for those things that specifically require my approval and for questions of technical nature, including research, graduate school, and career advice.

For the following items, I recommend going to Nanette and/or Emily:

  • understanding how your schedule fits with department and concentration requirements
  • understanding graduation requirements, including the senior design requirements

For the following items, I recommend coming to me:

  • receiving pre-approval for "approved electives"
  • technical advice on different courses
  • advice on research
  • advice on career goals
  • advice on graduate school

Key things to do to keep things efficient

  • if you cannot make office hours and email me to request a meeting, please BE SURE TO tell me why you want to meet.
  • using the text "class schedule" in your email subject line will get your email through my email filters.
  • if you want me to sign an "approved elective" form, you should first send me the course description and syllabus.  You should request approval before you take the class.
