Pre-Enrollment Information for Summer/Fall 2008:
New M.Eng. students will be able to pre-enroll for courses in August 2008--date TBA
Due to the University implementation of a new information system, all course numbers will contain 4-digits effective beyond Spring 2008. Students pre-enrolling for Summer 2008 and Fall 2008 will see these course number changes.
M&AE course numbers will remain the same except for a one-digit additon at the end of each course number: most courses will include an addition of a "0", e.g., ENGRI 1770, ENGRD/MAE 2210, MAE 3260 and MAE 4900; lab courses will be designated by the addition of "2", e.g., MAE 3272, MAE 4272; seminar and colloquium courses will be designated by the addition of "9", e.g., MAE 5459, 5949, 7999; and correlating sections for senior design courses will be offered as 4291, with the addition of a "1".
Conversion Table, 3-digit to 4-digit course numbers: www.cs.cornell.edu/gries/courses/. Note: Most Engineering courses reflect the correct number conversion, however, other courses may not.
Most MAE 4900's (research) and MAE 4291's (for seniors only--research with design report due end of term) require off-line registration. Please see packets located outside of 108 Upson Hall to enroll at the beginning of each semester.

Liberal Studies: The College of Engineering has not yet posted an updated complete listing of approved and denied courses.
Procedure for determining if your course selections meet the liberal studies requirements:
1) Check the Courses of Study--approved courses indicate the category included in the A&S and CALS course descriptions, e.g, SBA, HA, etc.;
If your selection does not appear there as approved, then consult the online listing:
2) The College of Engineering is in the process of updating the listing for courses approved to fulfill the liberal studies requirement;
If your selection does not appear in either of the above listings, then visit:
3) The College of Engineering Office of Advising, 167 Olin Hall. A complete list of approved and denied courses is maintained on a database. In the event your course selection indicates this course has been previously denied, this decision will most likely be upheld. In the event that your course selection does appear on this database as approved (this will eventually be updated on the online College updated list), there is no need to petition--your course will be accepted;
4) If your liberal studies course does not appear on the College of Engineering approved list or in their database of approved/denied courses, you may petition the offering department for approval.
The College of Engineering will honor courses appearing on previous approved College lists and will also honor any past approvals by petition. Any liberal studies courses taken elsewhere should be preapproved for transfer.
Did you know...you can take an ONLINE liberal studies course over Winter Break at Cornell?

Announcing the Thomas J. and Joan T. Kelly Prize to be awarded at Commencement in May to a graduating senior or M.Eng. student for excellence in aerospace engineering, as demonstrated through coursework or an innovative design project. The awardee must also show tangible evidence of being a well-rounded person with an outstanding non-engineering contribution to Cornell and/or the greater community.
DEWITT MIDDLE SCHOOL T.A. PROGRAM Do you like teaching? If you do, join the DeWitt Middle School TA program and earn MAE credit! In the Cornell-DeWitt TA program, undergraduate students help teach technology education to 8th graders at the DeWitt Middle School in Ithaca and earn up to five flexible credits per semester. Typically, Cornell students earn 1 credit of MAE 498, Teaching Experience in Mechanical Engineering for every three hours of teaching per week at DeWitt. MAE 498 can be used (with advisors approval) as an advisor-approved elective in MAE. It is also often possible to arrange credit for MAE 429 (Supervised Senior Design Experience) for projects at DeWitt, with a MAE faculty sponsor. Cornell students can design new projects for the kids and prepare the corresponding lectures. Interested? Contact Professor Louge at MYL3@cornell.edu
If you've pre-enrolled in M&AE 427 and need to change a lab day: You will be unable to add/drop it electronically in the Fall. There will be a "Trading Spaces" sheet outside of 108 Upson where you can sign-up for the lab you want to switch from and in which lab you need to enroll.
Enrolling in M&AE 490 and M&AE 429 Fall 2007: Many of these research/project courses require manually adding in the Fall. If you attempt to register and get denied, this means you will need permission from the instructor to add. This is also relevant to students who want to join team projects. Recruiting schedules and info sessions will be posted.
Interested in TA'ing in the Fall? For details: TA Info
Minors: For students who are in the M.E. degree program and who are pursuing a minor outside of M.E., you may typically use three courses of the six you are using to satisfy a minor to also fulfill M.E. requirements. Two may be used to satisfy the Advisor Approved Electives (with your advisor's approval), and one may be used to satisfy the technical elective requirement, if it meets the technical elective criteria.
Aerospace Engineering Minor is now approved and B.S., M.E. degree candidates may also participate.
The Biomechanics Concentration is currently in transition. M&AE intends to expand the current list after additional courses are approved. Please e-mail np18@cornell.edu for questions or concerns.
