Prof. Campbell takes part in NSF Research Expo for US Senators
Professor Mark Campbell, Associate Director for Graduate Affairs and Director of Graduate Studies for Mechanical Engineering, will take part in the NSF sponsored Research Expo, "Smart Technology. Smarter World", being held on July 9th in the Hart Senate Office Building, Washington, DC. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senator John D. Rockefeller will be in attendence along with key members of their respective staffs.
Cyber-Physical Systems are “smart” technologies that are beginning to transform our lives. Today’s research will lead to tomorrow’s autonomous, smart vehicles for safe transportation; homes filled with smart appliances; intelligent, earthquake resistant buildings and bridges; robots that assist us at home, at work, and at play; and unobtrusive assistive technology for healthier living. Cyber-physical systems technologies will affect sectors critical to our wellbeing, security, and competitiveness, including aerospace, automotive, chemical production, civil infrastructure, energy, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, materials, and transportation. - Text taken from NSF Brochure
Two students; Jason Hardy (MAE grad) and Andrew Owens (CS UG) will also be in attendence. The featured Cornell research, based in part on work done for the DARPA Urban Challenge (Skynet), is a result of collaborations between Professors Campbell, Dan Huttenlocher (CS) and Hadas Kress-Gazit (MAE).
