Graduate Program

The Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is home to three graduate fields offering both Ph.D. and Master of Engineering degrees. Graduate fields cross traditional college and department boundaries and afford a graduate student maximum flexibility in designing a program represented by faculty from virtually any discipline on campus. Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Theoretical and Applied Mechanics are three of ninety-four fields of study that constitute The Graduate School at Cornell University.

Ph.D. Program

The Ph.D research degree is offered in the fields of mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, and theoretical and applied mechanics; no terminal master's degree is offered. Prospective students with a bachelor's degree may apply directly to the Ph.D. program. Students who have already completed, or are in the process of completing, a master's degree, may apply for the Ph.D. program.
